What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are smooth gels made from hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in your skin that helps it hold moisture and volume. Placed precisely, they add volume, shape and support to specific areas, such as the lips or the lines between the nose and mouth.

Unlike skin boosters, which spread evenly to improve skin quality, fillers are designed to stay where they're placed, shaping and restoring. Results are visible straight away, and your body gradually breaks the filler down over time.

Is it right for me?

Dermal fillers are only available to clients aged 18 and over, as required by UK law. Your consultation includes a full medical history, and treatment may not be suitable if you:

are pregnant or breastfeeding
have an active cold sore, infection or inflammation in or near the treatment area
have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine, a local anaesthetic found in many fillers
take blood-thinning medication, which can increase bruising
have had, or are planning, dental treatment within about two weeks of your appointment
have an active autoimmune condition

If you're prone to cold sores, please let Chelsea know in advance, as this may affect when you can be treated.

Dermal filler questions

Will my lips look natural?

That's always the aim. Chelsea tailors every treatment to your face and would always rather build results gradually than overdo it. Starting with 0.5ml is a lovely way to see how you feel.

Does it hurt?

Most lip fillers contain a local anaesthetic to keep you comfortable, and most clients describe a pinching or pressure sensation rather than pain. Chelsea will make sure you're as comfortable as possible throughout.

How long will the swelling last?

Lips are often swollen for the first 2 to 3 days and can look a little uneven while they settle. Your final result is usually visible after around two weeks. Bruising is possible, so avoid booking right before a big event.

How long does filler last?

Typically 6 to 12 months, depending on the area treated, the product used and your own metabolism. Many clients choose a top-up to maintain their results.

Are there any risks?

As with any injectable, side effects such as swelling, tenderness and bruising are common and settle on their own. Serious complications are rare, but Chelsea will explain all the risks fully at your consultation, and you'll have clear aftercare advice and support afterwards.

What aftercare will I need?

Chelsea will give you full aftercare advice. This usually includes avoiding make-up on the area, strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours, and not pressing or massaging the area unless advised.
